Through the Teacher Capacity Building Workshop on Meaningful and Contextual Learning Science in Elementary District Rote-Ndao
Center for the Study of Eastern Indonesia ( PSKTI ) through the Centre for Science Technology and Mathematics Education (E-System) Satya Wacana Christian University in collaboration with Forum for the Vision Indonesia (WVI) to build partnerships in improving the service quality of science education in the district of Rote-Ndao East Nusa Tenggara . Quality improvement is focused on increasing the capacity of science teachers in designing learning meaningful and contextual. The activity begins with a 4-day workshop held on 10-14 November 2009 was well received and opened by the Head of District Education Office Rote-Ndao Jonas C. LUN. The workshop, which was followed by three target schools WVI Rote-Ndao in three different districts with 20 teachers total number of participants is met with great enthusiasm by all participants.
The approach used in this workshop felt more striking because it is very relevant to the conditions and needs of the teachers there. According to Ferdy S. Rondonuwu, S.Pd. M.Sc., Ph.D., who designed this training said it was vital to train science teaching skills and increase understanding of the concepts of science teachers through the inquiry that is associated directly with the experience and phenomena that exist in the environment. Thus the knowledge of science is placed in context so it is easier understood. The same is true for students. Students will learn the truth about the correct concepts (not miskonsep) only if the teacher taught the truth about the true concept of it. This method of learning science in this workshop also deliberately designed so that the process can become a model in the teaching of science in the classroom.
Before the workshop is done, the team of Dr. PSKTI ie. Marthen Ndoen, SE, MA, Ferdy S. Rondonuwu, S.Pd., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Drs. Jubhar Mangimbulude, M. Sc from PSKTI who was accompanied by Mr. Sugiyarto, Chairman of the Area Development Program Ndao real-Rote WVI has surveyed the needs and conditions of schools and teachers for the three target schools. Seeing the tremendous response of participants and the results are very positive, planned training will take place in three stages is likely to be expanded so that its impact is more significant changes at the school level, especially students. The training phase is lowered one team of Dra Sudarmi Marmi, M.Sc., Dra Hartati Soecipto, M. Sc and Today Kritiyanto Revelation, M.Pd.
