Center for Eastern Studies Indonesia is one of the most multidisciplinary research institutions active in SWCU. This study centers memokuskan on activities in areas that include areas of East Indonesia, namely Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara and Papua.

Vision
Being a supporter of the institution building process in eastern Indonesia, which is known through the works of research and development through initiating and fundamental questions of development in Eastern Indonesia.
Mission
Construct and develop knowledge assets Eastern Indonesia.
Objectives
Encouraging development in eastern Indonesia through:
- Development of strategic studies (research, studies, discussions, etc.) and fundamentals that provide a valid input (historically and contextually) to guide development policies and interventions.
- Identify and ensure the use of local knowledge elements (competence, capacity and technology).
- Using a cross-discipline research approach is aimed as strengthening institutional capacity, human resources, natural resources management, environmental management, conflict resolution and protection of Human Rights.
- Introducing and implementing development models appropriate for the government and civil society.
- Encourage and strengthen future leaders (from EI) capable of directing changes based on science.
- Actively encourage the exchange of knowledge through publications, seminars and workshops in order to improve the accessibility and usefulness of existing data and information in regions (KTI).
